Evangelistrias Monastery

Evangelistria Monastery, founded in 1794 by monks of the Kolivades movement, played a crucial role in the Greek War of Independence. Hieromonk Nephon led the construction, and Gregory Hatzistamatis, a Skiathos native, convinced them to establish the monastery in Skiathos. It became a spiritual and cultural center, producing wine, olive oil, and honey.

The monastery's construction finished in 1806, and it became a Stavropegic Monastery. Nephon passed away in 1809, leaving a lasting legacy. By 1833, the monastery owned 111 estates, preserving local traditions and contributing to the religious life of Skiathos.
